8GB Ram on 2.53Ghz C2D Macbook Pro

I am attempting to upgrade the memory on my Mid-2009 2.53Ghz C2D Macbook Pro. I originally ordered an 8GB Mushkin kit from Newegg, but that failed the memory test when I tried to boot up my Macbook.

All research indicates that this model supports 8GB.
According to OWC, Apple, and Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) should work fine. So was my issue just related to memory not meeting what my system wants?

Beyond that, the Crucial kit is $260 and the OWC kit is $173. Is there any reason to go for one over the other? Apple's is $600 but I'm just going to disregard that price point 🙂

OWC sells Mac stuff, so if their kit that says it will work with your MBP is cheaper, I say go for it.

I know it's not fun, but I would try to get a replacement, or just return it and order the cheaper OWC.

I bought OCZ RAM from Newegg last year and the first set gave me errors like that, but the second set was perfect.

The OWC was only a few bucks more than Newegg and is (supposed to be) specified for my MBP.

As I said in your other thread (why do you keep making new ones??) Mac specific memory is not really a concern these days, I bought bog standard Corsair RAM for my old MacBook and never had any problems with it. I think you may have just gotten a bad set, and so if you are gunshy, then going with OWC, who sells Mac parts could assuage that hesitation.
