lol it started with 1gb and when i went to the drop down list it say 8gb somthing somthin (Add +$4280 or so)

not surprising. high density memory like that is costly. 2gb dimm is atleast 900 bux. so not unreasonable at all.

Longtime lurker, but I had to chime in on this one.

I've been running my dual 2.5GHz for over a month now, with 8GB Crucial RAM (it can actually take 16GB, but they need to make 2GB DIMMS for that).

Stable as a mountain. I've done 4 reboots in the past month (due to software installs)....I've been folding@home, Photoshop 8, and FCP4, and when not using it for my Final Cut Pro DV or other work, I've been playing Halo, and STEFV2 (waiting for Doom3 for Mac) with my Nvidia 6800 and my 23" display, like glass.

Best part... the damn thing looks good doing it!

I don't hardly ever use my P4 1.7 for anything anymore except the two or three windows only apps I need for work. With VPC 7 coming out, I just may sell it on ebay!
