Just out of curiosity... does anyone here have 8GB of DDR3 up and running stable? What parts do you have, and how much did it cost?

Depends on the application and timings. That is way to broad a statement to make, not to mention a 600 MHz difference in speed.

DDR3 is still in its infancy and in fact will take quite a while to catch up with DDR2.
Doesn't make sense to me.

Reasons:
1) Expensive (DDR2 is now the cheapest it has ever been)
2) New (DDR2 has been rigorously tried and proven)
3) Young (DDR2 already has all the kinks worked out and performs beautifully).
