I've been looking around for specs on the 8900's. I don't know if anything was confirmed yet, but I've heard that the 8900GTS will have the full 128 stream processors and on an 80nm process. Has this been confirmed though yet? I also assume that nvidia will wait for ati's R600 before they launch the 8 series refresh right?

I also heard that 8900GTS will have 128 stream processors. This does sound a little odd though, because the same sources say the 8900GTX will feature the same 128 stream processors, just clocked higher. It doesnt sound like Nvidia. The GTX was allways clocked higher and had more pipelines. The manufacturing process will sure be 80nm.
I believe that if the 8900GTS will have 128 stream processors, the GTX will have more. Nvidia claimed 25% more shading power for the GTX, so I suppose 160 stream processors. Only time will tell.

Actually take the 7900GT and GTX for example. Both of them had 24 pixel pipelines, but the GTX was clocked at 650MHZ as opposed to the GT being clocked at 470MHZ(I think). You could be right about there being something like 160 stream processors available.

7950GT = 450/1320
7900GTX= 650/1600

If nVidia does what they did with the 7800->7900, then the 8900GTS would have the same number of shaders as the 8800GTX.

Geebus, with no competition from ATI/AMD, NV has resorted to competing with themselves. :Q That is one scary, comprehensive line-up of cards and should fill the need for pretty much anyone who had doubts about what card to get from $200+. Most interesting part to me is still the 8900GTS although a GTX dropping to $450 MSRP should make a lot of people happy for less money.

Another interesting comparison will be the 8900 GS vs. 320MB 8800 GTS. Same MSRP, same number of shaders, similar clock speeds. Main differences are the 8900 GS has a 256-bit memory interface to the GTS' 320-bit, but the 8900GS has 512MB RAM which is clearly the 320MB GTS' weak point.

8600GT and GS parts should also make lower mid-range folks happy. They're much more competitively priced than I thought at $149 and $199 with the 8900 GS variants (and 320MB GTS if its not discontinued) filling in the price and performance gap before the $400+ range.

that 8950gx2 is going to be a demon. they better drop that 8900GTX price down some or sales will be garbage, though it could be that they don't really care.

We'll have to see 8600s/8400s first before we see 8900s. I doubt 8900s will come out before 8600s, and even then 8900s won't be much more than 7800 GTX 512 -> 7900 GTX from the leaked specs. I'd like early 8900s though. And hopefully a good SLI drivers for G80. I wouldn't mind adding 2nd GTX if prices go low enough.
