Who said its only limited to DX10?
No one yet. Gstanfor just gave a link discussing how they might skip such a feature entirely with DX9. Click
It would be expensive for us to try and do it in hardware, and it wouldn't really make sense - it doesn't make sense, going into the future, for us to keep applying AA at the hardware level. What will happen is that as games are created for HDR, AA will be done in-engine according to the specification of the developer.

I base that comment upon firiing squad's Dx10 article and this slide contained therein, btw.
Kind of makes no sense but more liek FUD to me.
FUD? No, just prior speculation that may or may not be true. We'll find out soon though and will be able to rest easy.
ITs like the same rumours of nVIDIA not using angle indepedent AF.
Except that we've already been given evidence of their new AF mode but still have yet to see an HDR+AA bench.
I see no reason why the hardware could do HDR+AA in DX10 but not in DX9. Technically, if the hardware can perform MSAA on FP render targets, then is can do so regardless of which API is in use, whether it's DX9, DX10, or OpenGL, because the same hardware gets used across all 3 API's. If for some reason the drivers or software limits this functionality to DX10 only, then either the hardware can't really do HDR+AA, or it's an intentional limitation.
Like I said, I think it will be able to. I'm just noting how it's strange no HDR+AA numbers or screenshots have been presented yet, but the feature is still being trumped as if we've seen what it entails. I'm just trying not to jump the gun and get entangled in a disillusionment.

Just to heat things up..

From the G80 PDF (thanks to CJ from b3d)

Link

The GeForce 8800 GTX is not only the first shipping DirectX 10 GPU, but it was also the reference GPU for DirectX 10 API development and certification.

:)

Funny if apoppin saw this.

Funny how he conveniently went missing from the forums isn't it? Given how NWN2 currently performs on topend cards, I wonder how much he's enjoying it on his rig? (No, I'm not hoping he'll come back - it's been wonderfully peaceful without him and ackmed in here).

I guess Gstandfor and I can agree on somethings. ;)

OMG another conspiracy against nvidia. Personally I blame the martians for any screw ups with the resistors.

Did Nvidia hire ninjas to take out appopin amd ackmed?

He'll be front page on dailytech tmrw, i can see the headline now:

'ATI fans who disputed G80 abilities found nailed to their ceilings by a dozen 8800GTXs in locked room, no sign of entry, Sony blamed! '

Actually I've been playing Hitman Blood Money the past few days ;) but no, I haven't imagined any of the targets as ATi supporters.

I think the 8800GTS is almost a good value. Sure it may only be around the same performance as an X1950XT, but you need to remember that some people want SM4 and DX10. I get the impression that Nvidia released the GTS just so people could get these new technologies in their games. I have not seen a single benchmark of the 8800GTS yet, but by the sounds of it, if you really love to game, you should get the 8800GTX, which is what I'm not considering when Alan Wake comes out.

What happens with the 8800GTS will largely depend on how well it overclocks. If that 30% overclock translates into a 20%+ performance increase, then it's worth considering at that $450 price. $500 is just silly under any circumstances.

Here's hoping that one of these reviews will show thorough overclocked benchmarks.
