I want to upgrade my vid card. I am also planning on getting Vista.

I was planning on getting an 8800GTX, but do any of y'all know if there will be something better coming out when Vista launches, or shortly thereafter?

If you're looking to buy a card now the just get an 8800GTX. They're already starting to slowly drop in price.

Your card's getting aged but it's still fine enough for now, I would wait for ATI's response and maybe the refresh of the 8800's. Prices only go down and for such a large upgrade it's best to wait (imo) for the driver support and some competition to avoid the ridiculous mark up.

Seems the R600 was pushed to end of Feb., but who knows.

ATI's response should be out around jan end 2007.The code name is R600.
But it'll mostly make the x2xxx series.With the top end called the x2800 xt.(most prolly)
