8800GTX makes me cry

So I just got an eVGA 8800gtx which I've oc'ed for the moment at 630/2020 via rivatuner.

I've always considered BF2 one of my prime measures of video performance.

Last year before getting an x1900xtx I had a 7800gtx OC from BFG and 4400+ @ 2.65ghz. I used to play BF2 at 1680x1050, all high except lighting and shadows, 4xAA and 8xAF, getting around 70fps or so.

Now with my overclocked 8800GTX I decided to try out nearly the same settings, this time all high including light/shadows, 1680x1050, 4xAA, 8xAF.

Check out the screenshot. It's hitting a CPU wall at 230fps, and stays between 190-280fps. It makes sense, a 3 to 4fold increase over the 7800gtx, but still, holy sh*t, what an amazing card this is.

You've obviously got performance to burn so why are you using such a low AA level? Try one of the 8x or 16x modes.

I do, it even runs 16AA at above 130fps. The point in using my older settings was to bask in the tremendous performance improvement over my previous cards

Great ... now lets "ground" you a little

Try CoJ, CoH, or Lost Planet on the DX10 pathway and try max everything with 4xAA/16AF ... at 16x10 😛

too new for your GTX? OK ... try Oblivion maxed out with the largest of Quarl's texture packs and toss in some HQ Filtering with maxed AA/HDR

--you will want a 2nd GTX

you mean to poorly coded?

QTP is legit though 😛

I upgraded from a BFG 7950GT OC to a BFG 8800GTX OC2 today. I did this mainly b/c of Bioshock.

I am absolutely amazed at the difference. I was able to up the rez in Bioshock to 1920x1200 wtih everthing enabled. The game looked so much better and the framerate was liquid.

I went from a dual 7800GT to a 8800GTX and the difference is not even funny.

I can run most of the old game at 16 FSAA.. depending on the title.
I love this card. I was just hoping that DX10 would not suck as much as it does.
