Hey all, I recently ugraded the to 8800gtx and I am experiencing this weird issue when running generic apps in 2d (i.e. word, IE, etc.). Bascially since I installed the card I've noticed that my CPU usage while running 2d apps has increased substantially. For example, when browsing the net using IE of Firefox, I see ~30% CPU usage by my browser simply by scrolling up and down within a web page. THe amount of CPU usage increases if I rapidly scroll back and forth.

I know my X2 4800+ is not the beast of a processor it once was, but it seems ridiculous to me that web browsing now requires 30% of my processor. Moreover, this was not an issue with my old card (an X1900XTX). Anyone have any thoughts?

MODS: I wasn't sure if this should be in this forum of the tech support forum. Its definitely video issue arising from the GTX however.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing a reinstall. I have another issue that I think would be resolved by that as well. Hopefully a soft reinstall w/o reformatting will do the trick.

From what I've always seen, rapid scrolling tends to cause high CPU use because it has to re-render the html script each time from the point that you're at. On the machine that I'm on right now (single core P4 with HT), I was able to get it up to 54% just scrolling your thread up and down.

This also may be somewhat browser dependent. For example, IE and Firefox do not use the same rendering engine.
