8800gtx DOA?

Hi all, long time lurker, first post, first build. Question is, do I have a dead card here or am I missing something?

Setting up a new system, based largely on the great Anandtech Jan buyers guide:

OCZ Gamextreme 600W PS
Asus P5B-E
C2D 6600E
2Gb SuperTalent DDR2 800
Raptor X 150Gb
EVGA 8800 GTX (alt ATI-X300SE)

Was getting a POST code 1 long beep, 3 short. While many posts point to this as a memory problem, the Asus site suggested the video card. I installed a new ATI-X300SE card ($39 compusa) and viola, right into BIOS!

The PCIE/E1 connectors each test at 12v. Am I missing anything with the EVGA 8800GTX, or is this thing DOA?

Thx for your advice!

make sure your card is seated properly

1long, 2 short-Video adapter error
Repeating loop - Memory error
1long, 3short-No video card or bad video RAM
High frequency beeps while running- Overheated CPU
Repeating High/Low-CPU

Yea, And make sure its not hitting a SATA connection or something, and is seating all the way, like Aberforth said. I have a friend that this happened to. He seated his card, and got errors, after close inspection, his SATA connection was against the side of the card, and would not seat.

Sad to say, but it does sound like your card is DOA ... try re-seating it & check as suggested to make sure its not touching anything it shouldn't be, you might even try clearing the CMOS as a last resort, but I think its most likely RMA-time.

thx, will rma it.

aberforth, helpful post, was looking for that info the other day.

i'll just complete my build with the x300 for now, it'll be fun to see how well vista ultimate handles the new 2407 with this card whn i install. well, i loved the vic 20, so it cant be that bad.
