8800GTS slower than 7900GTX @ low resolutions

From this test.

Seems rather disappointing as I had high hopes for the 8800GTS. Now I may just settle for a 7900GTX or maybe even a 7900GTO.

On the other hand, the Oblivion scores look pretty good.

Any recommendations?

(Other than: 'Wait for some more reviews' ;) )

People buy high-end cards to crank the details up, not to run at low resolution 1280x1024 AA-less mush.

The G80 offers more performance where I want it: when the details are cranked.

If both cards are getting close to 200fps, does it really matter which one is 5% faster?

Because I don't plan on getting Vista right away and because I expect the 8800GTS to be substantially more expensive than what I can get a 7900GTX for.

Also I don't plan on gaming on super high resolutions, but I would like the added IQ possible with an 8 series card...

Wait for better drivers, theres always better performance once official drivers come out.

Unfortunately the 7900gto might not even exist by the time you want to buy it.

It still seems to be in stock several places here in Denmark.

The MSI 7900GTO (which is the only one I've seen here) can be had for $330.

The Leadtek 7900GTX (which is the cheapest GTX I've found) can be had for $438.

(Obviously, these prices can't be compared to US prices. Here an eVGA 7900GTX costs $792, making the above prices much easier to swallow.)

Name a card that can do 200FPS with Oblivion @ 1600 x 1200 @ 4AA/16AF.

Or 200FPS FEAR at the above values, or Quake 4, or GRAW...
