Is there supposed to be a 8800GTS price drop soon? I know that the price is slowly declining, but there isn't going to be a drastic cut in prices, is there?

Probably not, otherwise the 8800GTS would have to compete alongside the 8600GTS in its price segment.

Doubtful as the 8600gts will replace the 7900gt/gs for around 200-250 i think.

well you can already get 8800gts 320mb cards for like $250 after rebate. if the 8600gts is $180-200 and the 8600gt is $130-150 street price, i dont see why they would drop it much omore. its not like AMD is coming out with anything competitive anymore, so why would nvidia drop prices just to give us a break.

i bet actually the 8800gts just stays where it is, until the 8900gs comes out (i think its 256bit bus, and natively 96 shaders with none disabled so smaller die too) comes out, and that will just take its place completely in the lineup so maybe then we can see a price drop.

Probably not. If ATI's mid-high end card exceeds the performance of 8800GTS, we'll likely see the ATI card being priced at $299 with Nvidia selling at $250 (without mail in rebates). If Nvidia feels pressure from ATI, they'll probably introduce 8900GTS on 80nm with higher clocks and phase out 8800GTS. I think Nvidia is very close to their refresh since they released their cards long time ago.
