8800GTS overclocking

I just got an MSI NX8800GTS HD OC 640Mb graphics card. I have heard that 8800 cards are good overclockers and i am assuming they can be overclocked far beyond what mine is. In fact there is an XFX card woth a core clock of 650MHz and Memory at 1900MHz and it appears to have stock cooling. My card is currently at 575 MHz Core and 1700MHz Memory. I want to overclock my card as far as it will safely go with stock cooling. I have heard that you can get quite close to stock GTX performance and that would be nice. But i am still unsure about what clocks are safe and i dont want to just max ou the sliders and cross my fingers. I was wondering if anybody could give me some safe clocks or at least give me some tips to figure it out. Thanks.

Download ATiTool and use the overclocking tools + artifact checker thing to overclock. Increase your overclock by 10MHz each time to see where the memory maxes out, then bring that down to stock and see where the core maxes out. Make sure to set your final speeds below the maximum (though I forgot what the number below is, maybe 10%?)

When i try to use ATITOOL it tells me that my video card doesnt seem to be used by windows. That doesnt make any sense. I am using windows vista if that is the problem.
EDIT: I fixed this problem by downloading the ATITOOL.27(1) beta driver
