8800GTS noise level?

Thinking about getting an 8800GTS. Currently I have BFG8800GTOC in the slot, and most 8800GT users know how noisy they can be under load. How does the 8800GTS compare, anyone tried both?
This one btw.

I really don't understand why do you want to get the GTS when you already own the GT!? These cards are very close in terms of performance, so spending more for a GTS is just not worth it.

You can bios volt mod the 8800 GT, like I did and then rise those clocks sky high and you will get GTS performance without spending a cent. 😉

I have that card, with fan @ 60%(3d) and don't notice it in game, I mildly overclocked the core to 690 memory is stock.

I upgraded from a 2900 Pro, and honestly the difference is minimal other than it uses less juice, i do get boosts in a couple of games, but from GT to GTS those gains are even less.

And i know 3Dmark isn't important, i went from 10793(major tweakage) to 11707 (GTS @ factory settings just after reboot from driver install)

Take the 3DMark score as you will.

Calm down there, fellas. I think he wants it more for the silence rather than the extra performance.

Yes but he has an accelero on it, so that it's like dead silent.

I sold the X1950XT I had, so I put my 8800GT in my living room computer. I like the low noise of it with the Accelero, so I will leave it there and replace the 8800GT with another card. If the dual slot solution is quieter than the single in my 8800GT, that would be desirable. I am just curious about the noise level of the GTS, I figure since they came down in price I might as well get that card over another GT...

Now I understand what are you asking. The answer is that the stock GTS is much quieter then the stock cooled GT. The thing is that the GT should be whisper silent if you are not messing with the fan speed, but this comes with a price: the overheating. So, for that price I would get the MSI 8800 GTS anytime.

I ordered the MSI 8800GTS, I guess if it's too loud I'll Accelero it too. Thanks for the replies!

i was very suprised how quiet the card is, compared to my old X850XT 🙂 everything below 70%-75% fan speed is basically unaudible over system fans.
