The latest beta driver said it

"Added PureVideo? HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs."

Do the 8800 series have that functionality too?

And how come the 8600 and 8600 series both get three stars out of three for "HD DVD/Blu-ray Video Playback," while 8800 series only gets two stars? Kinda weird...

No, or the latest beta driver would say that it added acceleration for GeForce 8800, 8600, 8500, and 8400 series GPU's.

Because the 8800 series doesn't have hardware decode acceleration. The 8800 series is older, plus it's expected that they will be used along with a CPU that has the processing power to be able to handle 1080p by itself, with no help from the GPU.

I play HD-DVDs on my 8800GTX without any problems (Thankyou X-box 360 HD-DVD drive). Mind you, my processor is what you might call "stout".

I would imagine that a GTS will be fine aswell, as long as you think your processor can handle it.

alright, thanks for the info guys.
I'm guessing my 3.15ghz E4300 should handle it fine.
Dunno if my monitor (3007WFP-HC) will make a difference in that.
