8800GTS Bottleneck

I'd like to know what chip and speed thereof I need to let my new 8800GTS run free and frolic through the polygons.

I am willing to OC,so if a chip can be OCed to a relevant level _on air_ that would be a better choice for me than buying a more expensive chip.

I'd say that a core 2 duo chip at around 3 ghz would be perfect for your card. An overclocked E7200, or an E8400 ( if you have the money ) are the best choices right now.
On the AMD side, a 5000+ BE overclocked to the maximum ( 3,2-3,3 ghz ) would do its job pretty well with this card. But still, if you can go with Intel, go for it, since it's just much better overall.

It depends on the resolution you game at. A dualcore AMD running at 2.4-2.6GHz will suffice for basically all games if you game at high-res where the CPU stops being the bottleneck. Even Crysis runs at completely acceptable framerates with a stock AMD 5000. But single core is out of the picture lately. Core2 is a great architecture though... If a little expensive.
