First off, let me start by stating that I Understand I have a dated processor (I have a tight budget and this mobo/proc was donated to me by a kind friend). But when you see the performance I'm getting from this thing, maybe it'll deter you from pointing the finger at that immediately...

So with that, My Specs:

Intel Pentium D 805 @ 3.7ghz (20x185)
Abit NI8 SLI mobo
VCore @ 1.45
Mem Voltage @ 1.9
2gb corsair XMS DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (which only run at 5-5-5-16 oddly)
memory running at 800mhz
XFX GeForce 8800GTS 320mb @ stock
SBLive! X-Fi gamer
Seasonic S-12 650w 18a*4 12v rails (max 52a 12v)
4 hdd's, 1 optical
Antec 900 case w/ 4 120mm fans and 1 200mm fan.

With this, the system runs STABLE. Ortheros for 12hrs no issues, ATITOOL no artifacting over 3 hrs.

Now, for the shame:

Adrianne Nvidia Demo: 4fps (1600*1200)
3dmark06: 4864 (1280*1024 no aa)
Cascades Demo: 12fps (1280*1024)
STALKER: 2fps (w/max settings 1280*960)
Oblivion: ~20fps (1600*1200 everything max)

Note that all this is in VISTA.
Mobo driver: Nforce4 SLI Intel, latest from nvidia site (abit provides no vista driver for this mobo)
Video Driver:Geforce 8800 158.18

I will note that this performance is shown across all driver revisions for both devices.

in XP:

Stalker: 7fps upon entering area "GARBAGE", however, it is "playable"(15-20fps) most elsewhere (same settings)
3dmark06: 5809 (same settings)
Oblivion: ~40+fps (same settings)

Driver:
Mobo: Nforce4 Intel X16 driver, latest on nvidia site (this one peforms MUCH better in XP oddly, much worse in vista)
video: Geforce 8800 158.19

SO yes, ive been seeing EVERYONE getting much higher performance out of this card. And i CAN ATTEST it is NOT an OC issue, as i get the SAME results (basically, not much slower anyway) from running the CPU at Stock speeds.

The thing that KILLS me, is that Oblivion runs like a DREAM on this card, 1600*1200 MAXED EVERYTHING. As Does NFS:Carbon, But Matrix Online runs like GARBAGE (known issue inside buildings in xp, HORRID framerates and graphical glitches in Vista). And every other game is a toss-up between horrid and beautiful framerates (although heavily leaning towards the horrid :( )

So Im asking: Does Anyone know what on earth could be causing this? Could I possibly have botched an OC setting? (unlikely cus i get same performance all stock). Am I using improper Drivers? Anything?

My specs all show right in CPUZ, im running x16 on the PCIe, nothing looks WRONG to me at all :( aside from the framerates!

Any Enlightenment would be a godsend to me about now, thanks!

my total guesswork, with no science or experience to back it up, but it looks as if your stalker and oblvion scores are about twice as fast on XP as Vista. Are you sure both CPU cores are running on Vista when you start your games? Is there a missing Vista patch or driver setting that disabled one core when you started games in Vista?

Try disabling hyperthreading in the bios to force the issue, and see if your vista scores stay the same or drop down a lot. If they stay the same in stalker and oblivion, then that implies that on Vista, even with two cores active, only one CPu core is running, and all Vista OS operations and all game operations are runing on one core. If after disabling hyperthreading, your Vista game scores go dow even further, then that implies you should ignore this post. :)

Hmm... havent looked into that aspect, but i vaguely remember seeing in taskmgr, upon ctrl+alt+deleting out of STALKER a couple times, seeing both cores being used same same with no other tasks running but stalker :

I'll check it more thuroughly in the morning, bedtime has come for me now.
Thanks for the reply!

Lol, im not sure if I should take this as a satirical quip or a legitimate statement.

So, if this is a legitimate statement, care to elaborate? As I stated, same performance with the proc runnin at 2.66 vs. 3.7, so yeah... I'm hesitant to beleive its my Proc as the culprit here....

otherwise, shush you ;P

here what you should do.
install riva tuner
setup OSD monitoring.

everygame you play monitoring vram usage and physical ram usage. report

note if vram is above 308 thats not good.
if physicla ram is above what you have, again not good.
also monitor processor usage in game.
a 805 should be quite enough to play games today.

Have you tried running one of the older driver versions? Try the 97.95's.

Or you could simply try uninstalling the current drivers, restart and re-install them.

Personally, this seems like a drive issue to me, but I could be wrong.

Possibly a power issue - is there a molex connector attached to the power connector on the motherboard? (located at the bottom near the pci slots on your board I think)

Something is wrong. Start by checking you have the correct chipset drivers and also disable vsync. It also might pay to update your motherboard's BIOS.

Well, I thought that was the problem initially (day i built system) and have since resolved that one. Molex IS in the connector on the bottom ;) (and yes, the pciex power is connected to the card too :p lol )

I was running the 97-series drivers in xp initially, but same performance :(

I've been using Driver cleaner in safe-mode between drivers so, no residual driver issues here :( Ive uninstalled/re-installed countless times each driver revision to no avail....

Now this is where im running into a bit of a pickle. Abit states its a "C19 Chipset" and nvidia's site has two flavors of Intel Nforce4 drivers...

I've tried both in both OS's. Theres "Nforce4 Intel X16" and "Nforce4 SLI amd/intel"

The former works a good margin better in XP than the latter, and its the exact opposite story in Vista...

I'm just flat confused there :(

Yeah, mine's 11k, but I have my video card overclocked. You definitely have a weird issue somwhere. I'd bet it's your PSU.

hmm... Any particulars that bring you to this conclusion?

Am I right in assuming most issues with PSU's are voltage sag when overworked correct?
I've noticed voltage readings on my psu tend to err on the side of higher than spec (but not by much, well within manufacturer specs)

Its a pretty high-quality supply, a Seasonic S-12 650w, which should be a leap above what the 8800 seriously needs. it has four 18a 12v rails, so I'd hope its doing its job :\ At least for $160 I'd hope it would ;)

oh and for comparison, my x1900xt 4800+ system gets much better scores than your 8800gts.

3DMark06 (670/770)
Score- 6065
SM2.0- 2367
HDR/SM3.0- 2669
CPU- 2018

My guess is that it's Vista/NV Vista drivers... There are a number of threads here (and elsewhere) that discuss the poor state of Vista driver for the 8-series. Personally, I'm actually impressed that you can get STALKER running long enough in Vista to get an fps average, as I can't get it to stay alive long enough for it to even save my options. For now (whenever I feel like aimlessly running around) I play STALKER on my XP partition.
