Factory overclocked 8800 320 (576/1700) is now available on the Egg for 300. The same version of this card with more memory is 380 after rebate and 410 before. That's not a bad deal for the 320 version. I went ahead and ordered one. I think that I can handle no AA on my 1920x1200 monitor. Hell, I really don't notice the aliasing I get right now and am far more concerned just getting a card that can do that rez at all with my monitor. As long as I can play with decent settings, I'll be happy. I also wanted HDCP.

As a tangent, I hate mail-in rebates. You have to wait 6-8 weeks and basically hope that you get the rebate. I've had so many experiences with rebates that just never came and it always ends up being a huge hassle and I just don't want to deal with them anymore. I think I'll just be happy with a card that's cheap right now and that can play 1920x1200 with or without AA.

Don't suppose anyone here wants a 7800gt ;)?

I handle things the same way BigDH01. If there's a product thats $325 with no rebates and one thats $400-125 rebate or something I just buy the one thats cheaper out the door. I'm tired of this rebate sh|t, I don't feel like giving the manufactorers free loans that they only repay half the time anyway. I send rebates in if there is one, but the rebate doesn't factor into my decision to buy the product in the first place.

I'm really not looking for the new video card right now but I'm tempted by the overclocked card as well, since it comes with dark messiah which I was going to buy anyway. I already have a x1900xt 512mb but there's two things: I'm considering switching to linux in the near future and playing my games over cedega/wine...which nvidia cards seem to have been support for. And ATI still hasn't gotten their sh|t together on fixed aspect ratio scaling in their drivers and I'm kind of tired of waiting.

Additionally, the stock cooler blows and there's no AC rear exhaust coolers for it. Plus I'd have to buy one of those.

I have a 1650x1080 monitor...but I don't run AA in my games (I don't really see much of a difference) The ATI card has great performance and visual quality, but everything else about it sucks. The warentee sucks. I don't like the way they handle their drivers. The cooler totally sucks. It uses a lot of power and runs kind of hot.

Frankly, both cards probably are more then I need power wise. But nvidia at least tries to make fixed aspect ratio scaling work, their drivers are straight forward, and an EVGA warantee is certainly nice.

I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud here. I haven't really decided yet.

i'll be waiting for your full report, BigDH01 :D. i'm only interested in full in-game settings, i don't feel the need to force AA/AF through CCC/control panel.

Hi All,

Here in Malaysia, the GTS 640 is around RM1800+, and the ASUS GTS 320 could be had for a little less than RM1300.
That is quite a big deal of difference to skew buyer decision.
