8800GTS 320MB problem

Here's the issue:

I have an EVGA 880GTS 320MB. I used to have Vista Ultimate X64 running and every so often, when ending or starting a game the monitor would lose the input and i'd be forced to restart the computer in order to regain video output. At first I thought this issue was unique to a specific game but this turned out not to be the case. I thought this might have been an issue with a buggy Nvidia Vista driver so setup XP to boot on another HDD and have been testing with it.

The problem still remains when using XP but does seem to happen less often with games but I have found it to happen once when changing video resolutions, specifically if trying a custom resolution.

It seems this issue is mainly brought about by switching between 2D and 3D video modes but beyond that I have no real idea whether it's the video card, driver, monitor or other hardware .... I presume it's the video card.

Anyone else had an issue like this or got any ideas?

I had a similar issue, with the display driver reseting, er trying to reset and not coming back but losing its signal and locking up on me in a few seconds after losing the signal (i find that 169.09 is the last driver that resets properly). I've got the reseting to stop though, found out my card was overheating so i backed down my overclock (and cleaned out a lot of dust that appeared to be clogging up the grill) and now i havent had a problem with losing signals.
