Has anyone experienced slower 2D performance with the 8800 series video card...?

The 3D performance is obviously much better than my 7950GT, but even the "Transparent Windows" test in PCMark05 has ~1100 with 8800GT vs. ~1500 with 7950GT.

When I open "Quicken 2007", the graphs and the whole interface seems "wavy", refreshing a few times, like if it was trying to run at 1650x1050 with no NForce drivers installed.

I have noticed that it happens only in Quicken, and everything else seems to be running fine, or is not really noticable.

I had not noticed anything like that with the 7950. Browsing the web, I have found some comments that the 2D hardware acceleration might have been abandoned in the 8800 series card and XP drivers by NVidia.

Is this possible? Has anyone experienced decreased 2D performance with 8800 series cards...?

Thanks for sharing your opinions.

everything else same and just change of vga card?

I had a similar problem working with Flash CS3 but it turned out it was a bug that didn't like my vista x64's aero settings. (my fix >Right click on shortcut > Compatibility mode > Disable aero visual themes etc.)

Have you try different drivers? Make sure you unstalled the nForce drivers completely and try the beta drivers yet? (if you are on beta drivers, try older certified drivers i guess)

I've never heard of a better card doing worst in 2D before but it's possible. Usualy it is the software that isn't written properly to adjust the new items. So i am guessing driver issues or Quicken 2007 issue imo.

Try updating quicken? or go search on their knowledge base on this issue. Worst come to it, email them the issue and see what they say.

I am running the latest beta 169.09, and cleaned the registry with Registry Mechanic.

It is only Quicken, and it seems like it is struggling with the VGA mode or something. Quicken calls for minimum 800x600 screen resolution (duh!!!).

Found another thread talking about the 2D performance, will try to run the test here:

Thanks for your suggestions!
