For some reason, I couldn't really find a comparison of the two. As I am about to take the said upgrade, what sort of performance upgrade should I expect? What finally prodded me to replace my beloved 8800gt's was the total lack of performance with shadows, and they just can't cut it with my new 24" monitor. :(

Any replies are appreciated!

Yay! I'm getting tired of setting everything to high but then having to axe shadows in all my games :(

SLI 8800GTs is "roughly" the same speed as a 280/285, so a 295 would be roughly twice as fast as what you have now. It's not precise, but a pretty good idea of the performance difference.

SLI'd 8800GTs can't handle 1920x1200? I was using a 8800GT on my 24" monitor until recently and it did fairly well except in games like Crysis. For 1920x1200 I'd rather just get a GTX285.

How often do you upgrade? If you keep your cards for 1.5+ years then go for the 295...otherwise just get a 285 and upgrade in like a year.

I keep my cards for awhile, and when I make upgrades they're big and stay with me untill necessary. I'm a pretty big fps-o-phile, and nothing under 60fps will do >.>

Plus, shadows just destroy me in every modern game I've tried, fallout 3 wrecked me until I turned them off :(

Two 8800GTs are roughly equivalent to a 280/285? Dang. I'd try a driver upgrade first, but I bet you've already done it. Strange that you actually have decent firepower there but having issues like that. Maybe a gamer board somewhere has the answer. Then again, a 295 IS the fastest now and a nice upgrade.

2 8800GTs wouldn't be as fast as a GTX 280. It will be around the GTX 260 216sp. A 295 isn't exactly cost effective for a 24 inch LCD. Something around the level of a 285 or a 4850x2 would do fine. If you really need the GTX 295, on newest games, it should be atleast twice the speed of your current setup.
