Ok so occasionally I have issues with games using directx where i get an effect like watching "scrambled" cable. I have a screenshot of ATITool to show what I mean. The box on the left should just be a spinning cube.
After restarting the machine I dont have the effect but it will eventually come back - only after playing a Directx game once though. To clarify - I can play a game fine for as long as I want, but the second time running the game I get the scrambled effect.
Once the effect has occurred, watching a video gets speckled artifacts also. The output is set using using 2D surfaces in media player classic, but changing to 3D or regular makes no difference. An example is uploaded here.
I'm running a 8800gt 512mb and slightly underclocked because I thought it might be a memory problem. The thing is, I had the same problem with my old 8600gts. Different drivers (cleaned correctly) make no difference.
My conclusion from all this is that my crappy gigabyte mobo is somehow the culprit and I should get a new one. Has anyone else had this issue or has any ideas on how to fix it?
Cheers,
Greg
