8800gt red screen lines

When i'm playing a game, whether during a video or in-game, my PC freezes and red layers of lines appear all over the screen and i need to restart manually. Ive tried multiple drivers and still the same effect, what is most perplexing is that not all games do this, some run perfectly fine, some run like total crap but never crash with the red lines. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Is your card factory overclocked? If it is you should try reducing the clocks, because sometimes these cards are overclocked wrong by the manufacturers.

And also, like weird247 said, verify your card temperature. 8800 GTs are known for their overheating problem on the stock cooler.
