8800GT PCI-E 2.0??

Whats this PCI-E 2.0?

I am running a BFG 8800GTS on an MSI K9N Neo V3. My retailer is happy to let me return my 8800GTS for an 8800GT.

However!! the 8800GT asks for a PCI-E 2.0 compliant x16 slot. MSI says my PCI-E x16 is PCI-E 1.0a compliant.

Am I missing something? Is this important? If it is, it kinda screws a little plan of a rather well worked upgrade.

I would like to get this order off in about 13 hours so any respinse would be great.

You are good to go mate, get that 8800GT slap it in and smile!!!!!

i dont think anyone has PCI-E 2.0 unless you have a X38 board.

the PCI-E 2.0 spec has backward compatibility built in (so does the 3.0 spec)... so the 2.0 card will work in your 1.1 slot etc... hopefully this means we wont have to go through the whole AGP to PCI-E pains ever again...

The cards and motherboards are backwards and forwards compatible. PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 compliant cards can be plugged into a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, and PCIe 2.0 cards can be plugged into older motherboards. This leaves us with zero impact on the consumer due to PCIe 2.0, in more ways than one.

I need to read more 😛

It's just like the AGP 2x-->4x-->8x transition. All the cards should work in either slot and it usually takes a few years for models to come out that need the extra bandwidth.

AGP didn't quite work that way because the faster speed slots/cards ran on lower voltages. There were some incompatibilities due to these differing voltages.
