I just upgraded my PC to add an MSI 8800GT OC and I added a Corsair HX520 to be sure I'd be able to power it reliably. I used one of the video card cables included with the corsair PSU, plugging it into the logical port in its chassis.
I just had my PC freeze followed by an NVidia error message saying that my graphics card is not getting enough power.
Do I need to run a second power lead from the PSU and a Y connector to feed more power to the card? I noticed that the card came with a y-connector, but i figured the corsair was set to run this card.
There is also a secondary 2 hole female power connector on the graphics car plug, and i noticed two prongs on the front of the video card by the power connector. Is this second connector meant to be plugged in as well? seems not since the wires connecting it to the main connector are too short to reach to the front of the card.
UPDATE 3/26/08.
I updated the drivers with the ones from the EVGA site (which were more current than the ones at NVidia). Machine seems stable for now, though I've only used it for moderate sessions of BZFlag (which is where it started hanging in the first place.
BTW, the MSI card with that extra cooler runs nice and cool 40C at idle and maybe 53 or so under load.
