8800GT multiple widescreen resolution problem

My old computer (now my son's) is running an 8800GT driving a 1680x1050 monitor. 1680x1050 is the only widescreen resolution available in any of the games he plays (mostly Crysis & Warhead, Devil May Cry 4, L4D, and COD:MW).

My new computer is running an HD5850 driving a 1920x1080 monitor. It has various lesser widescreen resolutions available in the very same games. For example, playing Crysis at 1600x900 is no problem.

Is this a limitation of the 8800GT or do I need to change a setting somewhere?

Thanks

definitely not a 8800GT problem, when i had my 8800GTS i ran many games at non-native resolution.

i would start with a driver uninstall, driver cleaner, than a fresh install of the newest nV drivers and try again.

Yeah I can run a whole host of custom resolutions with a 8800GT to my 24" 1900x1200 Dell or my 1080p HDTV which through screen size scaling actually only has 1914x1822 or something....

Drivers are the problem most likely.

Anyone thinking of upgrading to a new card from an 8800gt soon?

My 8800Gt is running a 24" at 1920x1080 and a 22" at 1680x1050 at the same time, probably a driver issue, I think it may have something to do with the video card detecting the monitor too. (XP 64 bit)

i went from a 8800GTS 320MB to a ATi 5770 1GB and it's been great so far.. only played Bad Company 2 but i ran one bench of far cry 2 before and after and my performance doubled (100%)
