Cant it? It's an XFX with the stock cooler. What program should I be using to check that?

u can use the latest riva tuner to check ur 8800gt temps...

it can idle at 73C depending on your case. make sure u got proper airflow to it. next use rivatuner to make sure the fan is spinning at AT LEAST 29%, u can rivatuner it to 40% or more

As LOUISSSSS said, it can. Around 70C is actually pretty normal at 29% - the default fan speed.

And you can use the EVGA precision in lieu of Rive Tuner (Precision has actually been created by the same person as Riva Tuner, and it has much more user-friendly interface).

I set mine to 45% on startup, and when I play games, 70%.

Good luck!

heard about this app but had no idea that it had LCD keyboard support. I will def have to check this out when i get home.

Also thought id say that my evga 8800gt idled at ~60c before I put the new heatsink on it, so if your case has bad/no airflow then its def possible it idles at 73C.

I was about to ask this question myself.

One of mine was idling in the mid to high 50s and hitting upper 70s to 80s at load.

Im glad to hear this is normal.

Make sure you got an updated bios on your card, otherwise the fan will only run at 30% and obviously not as cool as well as it can.

Personally I just got a HR-03GT a few weeks after I got my card and was done with it

Actually 73 in idle seems incredibly high. Mine used to have 55 idle and 86 C load. But if you have 73 C in idle, you're probably hitting 100 C in full load or even more and that is not healthy at all. Change the stock cooler, or really work on improving air flow around your card, because it's not going to last that long and it could throttle back in games or freeze and cause all sort of instability issues.

Check the website for your card manufacturer.. for mine (eVGA) it was on their forums

70s is pretty high for idle in a single card system. My top card idles in the 60s, but that's with it sucking up all the hot air coming off the bottom card.

I don't know, but all those temps seem really high to me.

My 8800 GT idles at 39-44C and at load around 51-57C. Maybe its because I bought the AKIMBO kit and added that.
Also, my fan speed at idle is 50% and at load 70%.

That can certainly be right.

If the fan isn't running very fast, 8800s get pretty hot.

I'd use Rivatuner to setup fan profiles which force certain fans speeds depending on temps if you're concerned.

I would recommend using EVGA Precision as posted above by JustaGeek.

I just downloaded the software today and is much easier to use. I wish I had known about this software before.
