Of course, if AMD had released a card today and it was NOT immediately available on newegg.com (or other notable US etailers), they would be receiving hell from Anand&Company about just another "soft" or "paper" launch.

Of course, I just went to newegg and cannot find any 8800GTs for sale, so I must assume that today's launch was a "paper" launch from NVDA...the first in a long time.

So my question is, where is the outpouring of condemnation?

Or is AMD the only company deserving of such?

Don't know about newegg... I stopped using them when they opened a warehouse in my state (thus state taxes). I am just trying to find the EVGA 8800GT SSC in stock somewhere. However, looks like they didn't ship any out to stores, just kept them for their direct sales and they are out of stock (or not letting people buy in anycase... however some said on their forums that they were able to order earlier today, just not anymore).

Yeah, Newegg's been going downhill for a while now on warranty issues. However, many video card manufacturers don't mind dealing with end users. I did have problems in the past, however, with certain motherboard manufacturers (ECS and Biostar comes to mind) who would rather you return a board to the vendor. Doesn't help much if the vendor tells you to go deal with the manufacturer.

Anyways, the 30 day policy just brings them in line with other internet retailers. Translation: Don't blindly buy from them without doing some price comparisons with other "good" vendors.

Well, with the (estimating) 4,252 cards that have been sold on etailer sites all over the world in the past 2 hours, I'm going to go with "Hard Launch." ;)

ps
One of those cards is mine.

who cares? its a great card and you can buy it at ZZF. "Newegg Availability" isnt the standard for hard launch/soft launch categorization

It's not the hardest launch they have had no. But they can still be found fairly easily. The highly OC'd ones are MIA though.

Too early to tell. Even the 7800gtx-512 was a "hard launch" if you only count the first few days of availability, although I don't think that debacle will apply to the 8800gt. So far, at least some versions of the card can still be bough at somewhat reasonable prices, so looks like a hard launch at this point.

I haven't found any at Canadian e-tailers so I guess it's a paper launch for us. Ah well, makes it easier to wait for RV670.

My GTS found a new home...and I'll be glad to get back to the red side (unless the GT performs much better)...hopefully RV670XT performs decently well.

Ah damn thanks. Shoot I went to NCIX like an hour ago and searched for "8800GT" and got nothing. Shopbot also shows nothing except from "DirectDial".

EDIT: I just tried searching for it at NCIX right now (just to see if it works) and it still doesn't come up. What the heck am I supposed to search for?

the non refundable, exchange only if defective in 30 days is neweggs way of protecting themselves from the upcomming ATI release two weeks from now, and the nvidia GTS refresh one month from now... they dont want people to return those cards to buy a better priced one...

Or for any other reason... those cards are gonna sell out even with a crap policy sneaked in... the egg really went down hill, and now they are sneaking special policies for individual items and hoping customers dont notice.. bah.

Since the OP was clearly wrong.

I say this thread is a soft launch and should be bashed as such.

For the record I think both companies should be discouraged of soft launching. Since that can sometimes lead to no launch at all or a lesser product upon release.
