Hello All,

So I got home yesterday and found out that my 8800GT died, causes blue screen and causing artifacts on the screen.

So I have started to look at new cards and trying to decide between the 560ti and the 570.

I know the rest of my system specs(C2D 3.0GHZ, 4GB Ram, Asus P5K Deluxe) will probably be the most limiting factor but this card will probably move with me to a new build later this year or 1st half next year.

The other limiting factor is card length. 9inch cards like the 560ti's will fit fine but it might have some issues with 10.5 and 11 inch cards will not fit in my case

Any recommendations for cards?
Edit - Forgot to mention I'm in Canada, so etailer should be Canadian if possible, ie ncix or newegg.ca

you don't happen to have an evga with a lifetime warranty do you? there was a post about a guy that sent back an older card and got back a gtx 480 in return. may want to try your luck if it's under warranty first :)

Obviously, you can get anything within your budget, but both the 560 and 570 are a huge upgrade from the 8800gt and will be heavily bottlenecked by your CPU. The 570, however, will probably be too long for your case.

You might want to consider getting a holdover card for now for a lot less money. A GTX460-768 will offer twice the performance of your 8800gt and is 8.25in long (for the reference model). In a year, a 560 will be out-of-date, and you may end up getting a new case that would fit a longer card anyway.

This one looks like a good deal: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130564

This one is a bit cheaper but is longer and doesn't have the same overclock: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390

what res are you wanting to play at? a gtx460 may be the best card for you and would be a massive upgrade over the 8800gt. a gtx560 would be good but with your cpu it would be overkill unless you are at 1920. and I would not even consider a 570 with an older dual core cpu.

The resolution that I'm still running is 1280x1024 :) ... still low in the grand scheme of things. The 460's look like a nice option too, hadn't realize how inexpensive they got

yeah this is why I always ask for for specs and res. something like a gts450 is a much better choice at that low res with your system. a gtx460 768mb can usually be found for just a little more so I would get that even though it wont come close to its full potential in many games. there is zero point in having anything faster than a gtx460 768mb for your current setup.

Yeah, starting to lean more towards the 460's. The 570's would be nice but upper end of what I would like to spend and may not fit. The only reason why I had started to think about the 560ti is as I had mentioned that it would be nice to bring it over to a new build, if I do one.

I have all weekend to think on it at least. Cant get anything till monday.

since you don't plan on a new build for at least a year at best then a faster card would be a waste. a year from now the cards and their prices will be completely different and you would have accomplished nothing but wasted money during that year.

You can try baking it to resurrect it for a little while so you can take your time on deciding on a new card.

Pull the cooler off and put it into a preheated over 385* for 10 or 11 minutes. Ive had about an 80% success rate for 8800GTs.

Might try that baking trick, I had heard about it.

Did not see that asus card with free shipping, hmm... dont think the specs are going to make that much of a difference between the asus and evga
