8800GT Core Temps Question

Hello everyone.

I'm currently running two Asus EN8800GT's in SLi mode on my Asus P5N-E motherboard. Both cards have the newer heatsink similar to this example (http://www.cdrinfo.com/images/...Asus_EN8600GT_TOP.jpg) instead of the nVidia reference design.
When I play with the Asus systemdoctor program to overclock the GPU's I notice the temperatures go up as expected and once, the screen went strange and a lot of red artifacts appeared so I quickly dropped it back to an old overclocked setting.
Now I was playing Crysis last night for about forty mins without any problems on with overclock GPU's and when I exited the game I noticed that the GPU temp's were being reported as being just over 100 degree's.

My question is, what sort of temperatures are these GPU's designed to withstand before I should be getting worried about potentially frying them?

OC'd Settings : http://i214.photobucket.com/al.../3DMark06ScoreXP-B.jpg

Thanks.

Well the cut-off in nVidia Monitor defaults to 190C, and Sparkle have released a passive version that Anandtech ran at 111C with no problems. I myself have the passive one and have seen it hit 100C with no problems.

Really 190C is the cut off, wow. Thanks for the info seb. Maybe I'll bump it back up then and see how it goes.

No, the card is not designed to be run at 190C. The shutdown temp is set somewhere at or below 125C I believe.

Ah right, ok that makes more sense. So is running it overclocked and hitting around the 100C mark safe do you reckon?

Well when I installed nTune yesterday with the nVidia Monitor the shut-off temp was pre-set at 190C, which I've got to say I did think was a bit high... But then Intel shuts their CPUs down at 100C I think and everyone on here seems to think 70C is "the limit" for CPUs?
