After posting in computer help, and reading evga site as well as a couple others.. It seems to be most likely that the reason my 8800GT doesn't work, is because it is not compatible with the power supply..

Quote:
"apparently it is a timing issue, when your computer first turns on the PSU sends power down each line and then backs off waiting for the computer to start the boot process. With the G92 cards they are expecting to see this at a different time than when they are actually getting the signal and it causes them to think they are underpowered so they clock themselves back"

...
I had an XFX XXX video card that did work, also an 8800GT 512.
However, I sent that back because of a blunder by XFX. I won't get into that.

The card I have now is an eVGA, and it's stuck in x1 mode probably because of what I quoted above.

Basically, can anyone help me find a card, not xfx, that will work with my power supply? :(
Thanks.

What psu and mobo do you have?

Mine used to get stuck in x1 mode too a couple times, i pulled the card out of the mobo, started the comp then shut it off, and plugged the card back in and it worked at 16x again.

I've been switching back and forth Hoping some different things would work..
Swapping between my 7950GT and my 8800GT 512 that is.
The 7950GT runs at 16x, every time.
The 8800 runs at 1x.

Anyway.

Are you sure it isn't a compatability issue with your mb chipset and the graphics card? Evga has a bios update for the gts 512 to make it more compatible with older mb's.
