8800gt 256 info

just found this on the techpowerup site while downloading the crysis demo and pcmark05. this thing should absolutely destroy 3850:

MSI Prepares Two GeForce 8800GT 256MB Cards
MSI announces that it has prepared two GeForce 8800GT 256MB graphics cards that will be priced at $200 and lower. Both the NX8800GT-T2D256E and the NX8800GT-T2D256E-OC are based on NVIDIA's reference design but will have an ATI-theme to them with the red PCB. The stock card will be running default reference speed while the overclocked edition will be running 660MHz (core), 1650MHz (shader), and 1900MHz (memory).

Palit used to make red GF7 cards

Hard to believe that a 256mb card would be even $20 less expensive to make. I thought ddr3 was very cheap right now.

it doesn't matter how much cheaper it is to MAKE, it matters how it fares against 38x0 in a price/performance category. I would wager that it will be like 8800gts 320 was at lower resolutions vs the 640, ie, it will beat 3870 at lower res and clobber 3850 at ANY resolution. They will probably be able to position it heads up against the 3870 or nearly so, though they might offer some of the cheapie 6 layer pcb units at prices more competitive with 3850.
