will i DEF be getting over 100fps? lets say i play in 32 man servers online...

No guarantee, but i never dip below 55 in a 50 man CS_Office at all. 1680x1050, All high with no AA/AF/HDR.

CSS depends mostly on the CPU. That Q6600 will be able to get you good solid frame rates.

Source games are very CPU restricted since L4D is the only one so far that supports SMP. CSS tries to put it all on 1 core, so even with a top of the line CPU it might run like dog shit on a 32 man server.

That being said, the game should run just fine most of the time. It's from the same era as Doom 3, so that's where the benchmark is.

no, you deff won't be over 100fps. On the other hand the whole 100+ fps thing is way overrated. Don't forget, there's no point in going with the fps over the monitor's refresh. So unless you've got a 100hz monitor(which i highly doubt) you won't see any difference between 75fps and 100fps(or even 60fps if your monitor has only 60hz refresh)

My bad, I didn't see that "DEF 100 fps" part. I was thinking about having vsync on.

With my 8800GTS 512 at 1680x1050 with 4AA/16AF I'm pegged at 60fps (with vsync on). But when I turn vsync off, I'm in the 70-90's. So I would not expect you to break into the 100's easily or constantly at 19x12. But it will still be pretty smooth!

should be fine, if something freak happens and close to all 32 players are fighting in the same area then maybe you might get some low fps spikes

You will stay far beyond 30fps which is good enough. There are some areas that FPS just dips 10-15 fps below average.

Not just overrated, getting torn portions of multiple different frames each refresh looks awful, at least when compared to nice smooth triple buffered vsync.

However, to answer the question, I just tried with my 8800GT SC and e8500@3.8GHz. It dipped a bit under 100fps during heavy action at 1920x1200 with everything cranked. Going from 16xQ CSAA to no AA didn't do anything to change that, I'm obviously CPU bound. Using triple buffered vsync as I usually play, while I have never bothered to run a frame counter while doing so, I doubt it ever filiches from a solid 60fps.

"the" human eye might be limited to that, but my eye can see much higher than 30. I believe I can see at least 100fps. I'm sure a lot of other people will say the same.

The human eye does not see "frames". The human eye has its own way to understand how to process images.

30fps means diff things on diff games. ever play crysis? its smooth at 35 fps. play cs:s and you will not be happy locked at 30fps.

i agree 60fps STABLE is fine for me. but if it jumps up and down between 30->60 ->30 then its no good.

i have a Q6600 + 8800gt, how will cs:s be at max settings? assumming with VSync on? will i be at 60fps stable?

May I ask why you need to know in advance? Are you debating whether or not a 8800GT will be sufficient for your CS:S needs?

Man, it's a 2004 game. The 8800GT is a late 2007 card. It will easily power through the game. Not sure about 100 fps though, that's pretty damn fast. It will easily be steady at your monitors refresh rate though.

In 2007 you said you get 125FPS in this thread. Get a new monitor?

I didn't turn up any benchmarks worth linking, maybe my google skills are sucking or it's the fact that CS:S is old and runs very well and no one cares about benchmarking that game.

You're going to have to bench it yourself, it will probably save you time since you already have the game rather than looking for benchies.

It'll be 99% smooth gameplay, with the occasional spike down (especially if you play something intense like Warcraft Mod). For normal CS:S, I doubt you'd drop below 60 fps. My 8800GTS (320mb) OCCASIONALLY drops to 45 FPS at 1680x1050 when there's a lot of players on the screen, all doing things lke going invisible, throwing nuclear HE grenades, shooting laser beams, etc etc. I've played on my friend's 8800GT x 1900x1200 and it's smooth as a baby's bottom.

I find you benefit the most from having consistent frame rates. You tend to notice large variations, which happens a lot in high player cs:s servers, even if they are happening in the 60-80fps range.

Using v-sync or fps_max will go a long way to helping the game feel smooth

It'll be decent. I have a similar setup and I'm not fully satisfied with it. I play with 4XAA and 8XAF at the same resolution and my 8800GT and E8400 are running at stock speed and it's decent... there's the occasional dip when there's lots of smoke.

that fps was with my 1680x1050 monitor. i'm asking about 1920x1200.

how about with vsync on? will my frames stay at 59-60 stable?
