8800gt 100% spin + dead PC: a sign?

Hi all. Got home today & powered on but nothing happened: nothing on the monitors, no startup sounds, no usb activity. I've not changed anything since the last boot so I don't know what could have happened. The only useful hint i've got to go on is that my XFX 8800gt, which usually blasts along @ 100% for a few seconds during the POST, is @ 100% all the time. Cables seem plugged in, all is quite new (5 months?), no previous probs, RAID0 booting HDDs even newer...clueless!
I know this is the wrong forum for general dead pc tips (i posted here because of the GPU clue) but can anyone even suggest how I can troubleshoot this, given that it I can't get anything on the monitors to tinker with?

[idiot. forgot to mention key point: system noises: doing make the usual 'beep' at the start. i know i sound like a complete twat, but you know what i mean - hit power on, all fans fire, gpu tests fan @ 100%, system beeps, then the monitors fire. No beep, no monitors. Could this be a mobo prob?]

That usual beep you hear when you turn you pc on is it passing POST. The fact it is not indicates a problem somewhere, no my question is do you have a pc speaker plugged into the motherboard so you can here any of those beep codes?

Try what Quiksilver posted, if nothing happens, try resetting CMOS, then post back what you find.

it does have a PC speaker so therefore isn't passing POST. I'll reset the CMOS & let you know. Cheers all.

p.s. if any noobs are reading this and having the same problem & are now off to find out how to reset your cmos: my gigabyte board has a reset cmos pair of jumper pins which you can short out either with a plastic jumper connector or, ahem, a pair of nail scissors (make sure you're EM shielded!). If yours doesn't, take the mobo battery out for 10 seconds (if you can manage to prise the ah heck out of there) then replace it. But defo read your manual to check.
