8800 Ultra Question on temps

I just got an eVGA 8800 Ultra and the temps idle are 60-61C and load is 81-82C. Are these temps a little high? I don't know if it's normal due to it being an Ultra or are they just high.

Also, is the Ultra PCI Express 2.0?

Thanks

I'm not sure what these cards nowadays are supposed to run at, my 7600GT is 71C on idle, so compared to that you're safe 🙂

No, 8800 Ultra isn't PCIe 2.0. Not that it would matter anyway.

Does anyone know of where I can find out what the ceiling temps are for the Ultra? I just want to know if it's running too hot.

The tolerance is really high. I'm not sure what it is for the ultra, but for the 8800GT, the tolerance goes to 120C.

The 8800 Ultra is quite a hot card so those temps look about right.

In fact mine's idling at 66C at the moment but it?s sandwiched right next to an X-Fi.

82C is fine, my GTX regularly hit 92C on load before i modded it.
These cards get really hot.

for a video card that is nice and breezy...

Most people with an 8800GT (with first fan revision) were getting 90c load temps...

Well, last night I was playing CoD4 for about an hour and I looked at the temp from Rivatuner and the highest it got to was 87C. So I imagine that 87C is ok for load?

Yea, thats fine... You can use Rivatuner to set the fan higher if you haven't already.

Is there a "how to" on RivaTuner? I have it and used it to OC the frequency, but nothing with fan control.

Yeah, this is a very good step-by-step guide on how to do all things fan related in rivatuner. Works really well if you want to find the best cooling/sound level combination as your GPU gets hotter.

My 8800GTX used to idle in the mid 70's and reach the high 80's under load. I've since set up temperature-triggered fan profiles in RivaTuner and installed a Thermaltake TMG SL1 slot cooler. The fan profiles helped the most, but the cooler reduced temps by a further 4C or so.

It now idles in the low to mid 60's and reaches the high 70's under heavy load.
