8800 Owners with XP - Seems there may be new drivers - 100.87

Interesting.

There's a link here to the modded drivers, which I grabbed off the nvidia forums. I wonder if there is anything to this for fixes?

Well, run a couple of benches and performance has improved, even if only slightly.

3dmark06 went from 10796 to 11020.

F.E.A.R on 97.82:
min - 44
ave - 84
max - 207

F.E.A.R on 100.87
min - 45
ave - 88
max - 211

Hopefully though, it will fix people's stability issues. Not that I have encountered them yet, but I know many are having problems.

No overclocking in Rivatuner with these.

Ntune, while it seems to work better with these still doesn't work for OCing.

Any 1:1 scaling fix? I'll probably wait for release notes before I install these. No OC'ing via RivaTuner sucks too. 🙁

I believe he's referring to the flat panel scaling page, and, specifically, whether the fixed aspect ratio scaling option properly letterboxes (i.e. black bars on sides and/or top and bottom) resolutions with different aspect ratios than the display (i.e. 10x7 on a 17" LCD).

Man we really need new drivers. I can't believe ATi got so much mocking. It has been quite a while since the 8800GTX debuted and the drivers are far from where they should have been considering NVIDIA's rep. I hope they improve performance in Fifa 07, Vegas, Double Agent among others.

I think I'll let sombody else be the guinea-pig with these considering all the problems folks have had with recent XP 8800 "updates"... v97.92 works ok for me.

That is correct. As I understand it, the options page is totally broken with the current driver release.

I would say that scaling is still not working properly. I am assuming that using the scaling, if I set my resolution to 1280 x 1024, when my monitors native res is 1680 x 1050, then it should display bands on the side?

When I set the scaling option and my res is 1680 x 1050, it squashes everything, almost as if it thinks my native res is 1280 x 1024, even though it states that my native res is 1680 x 1050.

Does all of that make sense?

If I do set my res to 1280 x 1024 then, yes, I get the black bars on either side and it fills all but a very little at top and bottom vertically.

But I would think that the point to scaling would be that it displays native res as it should, then any lower res it scales accordingly. This it is not currently doing properly.

Hmm it sounds like 1:1 scaling is working, with some bugs. The problem before was you could change the settings but they'd just go back to default (use NV scaling). It sounds like you are displaying a 1280x1024 on your 16x10 22" at 1:1, but when you set it to 16x10 (native) you're getting an image smushed into a 4:3 box. You get 16:10 native when you set it back to NV scaling though right?

I'll check it out when I get home but it sounds like 1:1 is working with some work-arounds.

100.87 contain some great bug fixes, especially for older games.

I also get some nice performance gains in a few games too.

Want to let us know which games still have bugs please BFG10K?
Sure thing.

I thought you only liked official nvidia drivers?
True but new G80 drivers are so scarce at the moment I have to take whatever is available. Also they have a Leadtek installer so I get the feeling they'll be official next week sometime.

Anyone know if SLI AA is working in these drivers? (probably not likely but it would be great if it was). For those who don't know SLI AA is broken for GF6 & GF7 as well as GF8 with recent drivers.

Have you downclocked your memory BFG10K or tried a replacement card? Checkerboard patterns usually indicate faulty ram (I'm referring to your FEAR troubles).

I just finished DLing these, I'm going to the fridge for another brew and I'll comment on F.E.A.R. in a bit as well as my pet issue, the busted scaling.

EDIT: I'm back.

Scaling is fixed.

F.E.A.R. - I looked carefully and ran the demo 3 times, I saw none of this checkerboard phenomenon. Though it should be noted that I have a GTX, not a GTS.

Thief: Deadly Shadows still needs a whole lot of work. 🙁
