Bought my 8800 GTS last year (640mb OC), next month I plan on upgrading my whole rig.

Should I buy another 8800 GTS for SLI or a new 9800 GTX?

Have you guys seen benchmarks for something like this?

How about 9800gtx2 vs 8800 GTS SLI?

Sell the 640 if you can as soon as possible since the resale value of those cards is tanking. I would grab a cheap GTS512 right now since I just saw a ecs model on newegg for 160ish AR. A 9600gt for 109AR does a nice job and if your board supports sli wouldnt be a bad choice either. I sold my 640 card for 140 on craigslist recently so get what you can out of it while you can.

I wouldnt recommend sli 640's unless ya get a great deal and have a nice PSU. They're slower than SLI 9600gt's which cost ~$225-250 ($110-125 each). Could wait till next gen comes out. Your card isn't exactly slow yet.

SLI 9600GT's is what I'd do if I bought an SLI motherboard -- they scale exceptionally well and are much cheaper than any other solution of comparable performance. Unfortunately, the SLI motherboards themselves seem overpriced, less stable, and have much hotter NB's than the P35's.

I think that two 8800 GTS 640 in SLI will touch and even be faster at some titles then one single 9800 GTX. But it doesn't really worth doing this right now, since the next generation cards from ATI are one month away and also Nvidia shouldn't be to far also. Keep your old GTS until then, I don't think it's a game out there that your card doesn't handle properly, except Crysis of course, a game that no card can handle right now. ;)
