8800 GTS: OC settings not sticking?

I got a new eVGA 8800 GTS which works fine. Then I downloaded nTunes for OCing, set my overclock, and everything seemed fine. But the settings didn't stick on reboot. So then I downloaded Rivatuner, and my motherboard's monitoring tool.

Between these three programs, I have no idea what the hell is going on, and apparently neither do they. I tried setting my OC settings in Rivatuner, but according to its own hardware monitor, the core/mem speeds I set didn't stick. Sometimes one was sticking and not the other. I thought maybe it is because I'm not in 3D mode, but I launch a game and the core/mem stays at stock. And then to top it off the ntune, MSI, and rivatuner monitoring numbers all conflict.

What is this crap? I installed the latest official nVidia drivers, too. I wonder how many other people think they are OCing when they actually aren't, or are having this bizarre issue?

In rivatuner, did you click the "apply settings on Windows start"

Did you OC the 3d performance tabs?

I think the problem was just ntuner and then trying to use those other programs all installed at once; it seems rivatuner is working fine now with the other crap uninstalled. Also I am not sure whether to enable the "Apply settings on Windows start" since I only want the 3D apps to be overclocked, and the help tip says that option is for some earlier broken driver (if I understood it right)?

If you use Rivatuner to OC and don't click apply on windows startup, then the OC settings will be lost when you reboot.

If you're OC settings are safe and stable, there is nothing wrong with clicking apply on windows startup.
