8800 GTS 640 Overclock

Is their much headroom to squeeze from this card ?

Also, which OC program would you recommend ?

Nvidia make their down dont they ?

I would rather not use ATI tool

With an aftermarket cooler you can safely reach 667/970 or 650/950 or 630/985 with riva tuner.

Although no fan is required, it would cool better with a 80/92mm fan, installation instructions can be found at thermalright.com

use rivatuner and try the stock cooler first, most of these cards will do ~600mhz+ on core, ~1450mhz+ on shaders, and ~900mhz on the memory (if you have the A2 revision). The A3 revisions clock a bit higher (most of them hit 650mhz on the core pretty easy it seems).

sucks for me. i got 1 A2 8800GTS 320mb and a A3 GTS so the A3 is somewhat restricted in clock speed because of the other one.

Nvidia'a program is called ntune, but its a big bloated piece of software. Use rivatuner instead.

My 8800GTS 640MB was running at 610-1900 (950DDR) on stock cooling for about 15 months. I'll sell it to you if you want

I used RivaTuner to OC it.

I got my card up to 620/950 on stock cooling. Got scared hehe...I run it at 600/900 for gaming and 400/700 for desktop. Rivatuner.

My 8800 GTS 640 A2 runs 650/1000 with stock cooling and RivaTuner for 16 months now without a problem. My case is very well ventilated with a 120mm sucking at the front, 2 x 120mm blowing at the back and a 120mm blowing backwards in the middle of the case. So it depends I suppose....
