Just installed a 8800 gts i got from my buddy to use. Ran 3dMark06 and got a score of 6047, seems almost twice as low as it should be.
Card is @ stock freq.
Sys specs are below in sig.

What could be the problem?

bad memory
power supply
overheating
unstable "stock" overclock
unstable cpu overclock
unstable mem overclock
bad luck

Could be any of these.

Although you would need quad core for 11k-12k score since cpu has such high rating. Whats your fps in graphics tests. If just installed maybe driver has not installed right.

sounds like the card is either throttling it's clockspeeds down due to insufficient power supply (or not plugging in the power connector) or the card is running in pci-e 4x mode instead of 16x.

No. I score 11k with what's in my sig. However, the OP's score is way too low.

I score 11k with E6300 @ 3.05ghz and a overclocked 8800gs. There is definitely something wrong with his system.

thats too low of a score - i was getting close to 11k-13k with my 640mb GTS and my former E6600

few things to check out are your driver version and that all settings in your display settings are set for defaults

another is to make sure you are running 3dmark at its default settings - if you change the resolution and/or the image quality this will lower your score greatly

I notice you have 3 sticks of ram.. I had 4 sticks and removing 2 raised my 06 score from9200 to over 9500 on a X2-3800@2.75GHz and my 8800GS @ 715/1780/2030. I don't know if Intel memory controllers act the same as AMD but running 1T timings by using only 2 stickes helped me plus with 3 sticks you can't run dual channel.

Exactly what I was thinking. Check your bios setting or run CPU-Z and check that the "Link Width" line item on the Mainboard tab reads x16.

I score 11,300 3DMark06 with my G80 8800gts in sig.

2 sticks of RAM vs four allows the T1 and better latency settings.
2 sticks vs 3 allows dual channel which is MUCH better all around.

If you go to my review it'll show what I got at stock and overclocked speeds.

Just checked with CPU-Z, link width = x16

What could be wrong with the PSU?

Do you you have Riva tuner installed or something to that nature? Here's why, I have an ATI and Catalyst lets me set things to "Optimal settings" and when I did this, gave me 13,100 scores in 3dmark06

Before we get ahead of ourselves, can you break your score down into the CPU score and various video card scores?

Guys it turns out I have 8600 gts not a 8800.

Is the score of ~6000 decent for 8600?
