equivalent performance in 3DS Max, & the Quadro is 10% faster in Maya.

$210 vs. $900

my anecdotal experience has been that "regular" video cards
are just as good as the ATI FireGL. i haven't owned a Quadro.

just ATI X850XT, nVidia 6600, 7600, 8600, for running aps.
like Solidworks, 3DS Max, & One Space Designer ( a solid-
modelling ap. like Solidworks ).

i've seen a few engineering managers pay extra for the
"workstation" video cards. since i was one of the recipients
of those cards, i didn't complain.

8800GT artifacts quite alot in AutoCAD and 3D Studio Max viewports.

I can't stand it, my 6600GT did not exhibit the same results

I switched my 3dmax station over to a pair of 3870's

-There was no gain going from a single 3870 to a pair.

-The spec viewperf10 3dsmax performance is 2.5x what I had with my 8800GT, it does work better for me in max....

-The only bug that I have found with my ATI set up is when I use an Alt-O key (custom key command) to open a group some of the objects in the selected window just dissappear and don't come back until I change the view in that window.

I use my dual core, E8400 & 8800GTS (g92), for AutoCAD ADT (2008) and have no problems.

I want to try a 9800 series card in one, or both, stations next.

One thing not mentioned though is that if you do have problems with the gaming cards, Autodesk will not provide support, since your using un-certified hardware.
Quadro also supports some features in Maya that a gaming card does not.

Did you look at the next page with specviewperf results..?
I think quadro/firegl are huge ripoffs, but the 8800gt is still killed in most benchmarks because of the drivers. Best to get a normal ATI 3800 card and use softmod.

If you have 32bit OS that works, but there's no softmod for x64 that I can find.

Yeah, that is also a problem for me. Though it seems there is an x64 version out for 2900 and downwards.
