Great card. It gets hot under load (86 Celsius) though even with that 3 heat pipe cooler. That is, if babelfish translation is acurate.

Probably we will see a lot of cooling solutions.Link

It IS supposed to have optimizations, and will probably run cooler and consume less power than the 8800GT (for those of you who were using that argument for GTS vs. XT).
What kind of optimizations? It still have same amount of processing units and uses shader AA

They stuck a VF-900 Fatal1ty on the 8800GT?!

If that works that just totally made the decision to not wait for RV670 for me. I've already got one my 7900GT and if I can just swap it to the 8800GT that's exactly what I will be doing!

I'm skeptical on the latest benches, they just don't seem to fall inline with other known benches. For example, in Stalker, other reviews show the 320mb gts on par with the 640mb version, and yet in here they show it's slower.

And what's up with Fuad claiming the 8800gt is faster than the rv670xt, without posting any concrete info to back up his claim? He expects me to just take his word for it? Lol...

They could beef up the texturing units to improve AF performance, and add back HW MSAA resolve. Whether or not that will happen is debatable, but if it does, the rv670 will be not far behind the 8800gtx in performance, maybe even on par or ahead in some cases.

We have to wait and see is it more like cheaper to make dieshrink version or something else.

If you read the RV670 thread there's some info there on what they probably have done. It's not concrete evidence yet of course.

I don't understand why Fudzilla thinks that the 8800GT will be faster than the RV670XT. From the review posted, the 8800GT is faster than the 8800GTS but not as fast as the 8800GTX. This is exactly what the HD 2900XT has been, and the RV670XT with its faster clockspeeds and optimizations should definately be faster. The 256-bit bus may limit it a bit, but the HD 2900 series never seemed to be limited by memory bandwidth and the significantly higher memory clockspeed should also counteract the smaller bus.

Could you point out where there is info? There were couple of users (mostly Munky) saying that it has improved what source they used.

-----

In that opening post where are collected huge amount of information..there were nothing usable there; speculation and Fudzilla-stories.

Ach but Munky, you don't get the FUD (haha....) at all! The unique part about fuads bollocks is, that there's nothing to back up the claims!

As I have many times said: Fuad or Inquirer stories should (in my humble opinion) be considered fabricated unless they are commenting on someone else's story

no doubt re fuad/fud and inq. regardless, it is great to see $250 cards that look to challenge gtx. It is a good time to buy a new video card methinks!

I just hope the 8800gt or hd3870 is good enough for 1920x1200, because I really don't want to wait for a new high end card.

judging by what we've seen the 8800gt should be fine for 1920x1200. It will be interesting to see if those benchies are real, and, if so, how 3870 stacks up. fun times are on the horizon...

pretty much what is stopping me from the the 8800GT is the new GTS or ATI card is a bit faster I may want to wait for that to keep the FPS from dropping too much.... This x300 is killing me.. no games for a month sucks!

Not only is the 8800GT decent for 1900x1200, it's beating the 8800GTS 640mb at stock speeds.

Not to mention, the 8800GTS 320 is pretty much dead in the water by that res in new games. Even at 1600x1200 for NWN2 for example, I couldn't turn the details to max with the 320, the performance was abysmal (around 3fps) although reducing texture detail and the performance shot up to about 10 times, showing that 320mb of RAM is just not enough these days unless you are playing an FPS with tiny thin corridors (think Bioshock).

The 8800GT with 512mb frame buffer will be more than enough to handle most games for a while.

I'm sure in uber-unoptimized games the GTX can still claim to be king. (Of course in those games neither card would be playable I assume, so it's a moot point).
