88-year-old man plows his car into restuarant

I've noticed that a daycare center near my house has barrier pillars surrounding the portion of the building and playground that is adjacent to the parking lot. I thought they were just being excessively cautious, then I read in the paper that last year some dumb driver (who happened to be a woman) hit the gas instead of the brake and hit two kids and one of the workers. Fortunately no one was killed.

this is one reason i think people over 70 should have yearly driving test.

As long as they get a vote for your elected officials, that would never even be up for debate.

one on the way to my sisters had that happen. some idiot hit the gas and ran into the play area. They were lucky in the fact that no kids were on the playground.

a few weeks latter they had people out there putting these huge barriers around the playground.

There are plenty of over-70s who drive fine, plenty of kids who do not, and there's no shortage of awful female drivers of any age. Punishing the masses for the indiscretions of the few is the antithesis of freedom and has led to this awful war on drugs, among other great wastes. Don't perpetuate it. Test everyone ever 2 years and make the tests harder to pass imo. The average driver would be shocked if told they were wielding a 1-ton weapon, this is a failing in the licensing system.

I'm guessing diabetes is a common complicating factor here. Diabetics often get small vessel disease and thus peripheral neuropathy. In other words. they can't feel the damn pedals.
