What would you go with and why? Which performs best overclocked for gaming?

Would there be any difference?

MOST games would perform better on a Dual or Quad CPU. The X6 performs better at editing and other task that can use 6 cores at once.

So those 2 only, I would go 875k.

But I am waiting for Llano/Bulldozer and SB to upgrade from my 775 system.

I have a chance to swap my CPU/ram/cpu for a 875k setup

Just wondering if worth about 100 total to do it

2 CPUs? Or CPU/Ram/MB.

But as long as it has the same amount of ram then yea it be a good deal for you if gaming is your concern. If doing editing or something that can use all 6cores then keep it.

Yeah I meant motherboard

It'd be for a 875k/ASus extreme/8gb setup

This is a gaming and browsing rig, nothing else

I'm leaning towards no.

I'm going to say no after some research.

I think the 1090t is better overall CPU, and minimum frames are near identical in 1080p gaming

I'm adding a 2nd 6970 soon, just about to sell my 5970/5850 combo. Already picked up 1 6970 dirt cheap with credit I had. I got it for the price of a 6950

You can get the 1090T set up a bit cheaper, but the 875K will do far better in MOST games.
Unfortunately, Anandtech doesn't have the 875K in their bench program, but they do have the 870 data available...and it's considerably faster for gaming than the 1090T...and the 875k should be just a bit faster.

For MOST games, the i5-760 gives the 875K good competition...

How does the i7 950 compare to the 875k?

That's the latest offer. I'm going to look into it later

I've got a buddy with a couple intel builds but wants to have one with a 1090t to take advantage of some editing program. Since I only game I'm thinking about it

The other setup is a 950/sabertooth/6gb

But I don't have a budget to. I has no intentions of SB. I doubt I upgrade to that without losing money I don't have right nnow

Since you overclock, an overclocked i875K @ ~4.2GHz would run rings around a 1090T @ 4GHz in games that are CPU bound:

However, in saying that, I still wouldn't do the swap, purely for the fact that SB is coming, and if you were to do a platform swap, a LGA1155 + 2500K/2600K would be the logical choice, not LGA1156 + 875K which is an EOL platform.

The cost of a S1155 SB will likely be about equal to the cost of a S1156 i7 chip now. So if you can afford the i7-875 now, you will likely be able to afford one of the S1155 chips when they are released as well.

I just went from a 1090T setup to a i7 950 setup and I can tell you there is a pretty big difference in gaming. I would definitely go with the intel setup. also, the benchmarks on my same system went up about 800-1000 in passmark with both cpu's OC'd to 3.6.

At this time, it looks like the i5-2500K ($216) will be priced just a few dollars more than the current i5-760. ($205)

Motherboards will be a bit higher, but not as big of a difference as there is between the 1156 and 1366 boards. $150-$175 should buy a good quality board from ASUS or Gigabyte.
Lots of discussion about it here, with links:

You can ignore this thread.

My 1090T build is only 4 months old. I'm going to keep it for 2 years as planned. Adding a 2nd 6970 on boxing day and I'll be set without much hassle of changing everything.

I returned my 6970 and bought two 6950's.

I'm good to go for 2 years + at 1080p I believe so I'm leaving it alone
