Here

see how well both overclocks, and you're in a world of hate.

Overclocked the E8400 will give the Q6600 a good run expecially since not a lot of things use more then 2 cores.

They seem to have limited the review to only a small quartet games that favour more cores, and there are very few that do that overall - the vast majority of games (going on other reviews) put the E8400 far ahead, even at stock. All depends on what games you play I guess....

Go to Hardware Secrets....they pit the Tri-Core (X3 8750), Quad Core (X4 9550) Phenoms against the E8400 and Q6600 (What's the best $200 cpu?) and came to this conclusion:

Except on a very few occasions (3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage CPU tests and on Cinebench) we haven?t see AMD CPU?s being faster than Intel?s during our tests.

We don?t see why someone would by a Phenom CPU while you can buy a faster CPU from Intel for absolutely the same price.

If you are looking for a CPU on the USD 200 range you have only two real options: the new Core 2 Duo E8400 and Core 2 Quad Q6600. For the mainstream user Core 2 Duo E8400 is the best option, as it provides a higher performance under almost all scenarios and you also get SSE4.1 support, which improves performance a lot if you have an SSE4-capable application. Core 2 Quad Q6600 is a better option if you have a specific application that is able to recognize more than two cores, like rendering. If you aren?t a professional designer dealing with 3D modeling, stick with Core 2 Duo E8400.

The reviewed Phenom CPU?s will only be good products if AMD lowers their prices severely.

Of course we haven?t run all programs available in the market and maybe there are some programs out there that show an advantage to AMD CPU?s. But according to the programs we chose, at this time Intel has the edge on USD 200 CPU?s.

I think Anand basicly came to the same result - in applications which can run parallel threads across multiple cores, 3 beats 2.

It may get more interesting if sb750 fixes the PLL timing ...

that's so true, my E8500 runs circles around Phenom in games :)

I stopped reading that crap. I refuse to look at a site where each page has more ads and navigation than actual content. Talk about milking a bunch of bs for ad impressions.

When did Anand come to such a conclusion? Obviously 3 cores are better than 2 - provided the 3 cores have sufficient clockspeed and IPC, which Phenom doesn't have. In most cases, a Phenom X3 isn't able to outperform an equivalently priced C2D, even in multithreaded apps:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuch...howdoc.aspx?i=3293&p=6
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuch...howdoc.aspx?i=3293&p=7

Out of 6 multithreaded apps/benches, E8400 wins 5, X3 8750 wins 1. At the lower end, the count is E7200 wins 4, X3 8450 wins 2, and I'm being kind in this comparison because the E7200 is some $20 cheaper than the X3 8450.

Intel C2D is king, Phenom is crap.

Any benchmarks showing Phenom doing reasonably well are biased and untrue.

AMD is a big loser, Intel is my daddy:roll:

The fanboyism in here never ceases to amaze me.

It is so easy to forget when Athlon64 ruled for quite a while.

And don't forget the HD 4850 is overpriced and slow while you are at it;),
Just a coincidence the price on the 9800GTX dropped accordingly.

ouch

Phenom is not crap, it's a decent cpu i can promise you that :)

yeah i agree with you on this comparison being biased, that's why i posted, unbelievable eh?

The Phenom might be slower but you as a user woudnt notice it unless you do benchmarks all day.

Yep, and when you point the finger of fanboyism you get three long fingers pointing back at you. On which planet is the 4850 currently slow and overpriced?

he's obviously joking... the 4850 is a damn fast GPU

1) Some of you seem to have difficulty grasping sarcasm .

2) @ Rogue - I actually don't recall anyone with the exception of one or two people, who will remain nameless, claiming that the 4850 sucked. The rest of us think it's a great card and many of us want one. So -- bad example if you're trying to paint ATers as anti-AMD.

According to those benchmarks, my e6750 @ 3.2 beats both of those. I can't believe that my E6750 can beat and E8400, oc'd or not.
