87 year old successfully defends home with firearm

So awesome when elderly people kick ass like that.

It still does not beat the swiffer wet jet guy though. :awe:

Shouldn't he have been blood tested, given a polygraph and put under observation?

Another good shoot by a WORTHY American.

All well and fine, but I seem to recall another thread where a elderly guy murdered an Iraqi veteran who questioned his right to tell a skateboarder not to skate in a public park.

Or all those gun owners who left guns lying around and found their own kids shooting each other.

Statically speaking gun ownership is mostly an overall danger to gun owners. Especially when they get robbed while not at home and then their guns end up in the hands of criminals.

As the US has the distinction of having the largest gun homicide rate on the planet. Especially when US firearm carry laws extend to drunks in a bar. I may be a gun owner but the NRA bullshit does not make me fell safer yet. As the NRA defends the right of any Psychopath to buy guns, and makes it positively easy in fact. Seventy years ago
the NRA had a proud record of advocating responsible firearms law, and then lobbyists turned the NRA into a for profit idiotic lobbying organization.

Dude you have lost all credibility with this bullshit statement.

You are in fucking serious shit if you carry while drinking yet alone into a BAR.

So one old guy shoots an intruder and it becomes the poster child for why we need guns? For every justified shooting of a criminal, there are 500,000 unjustified shooting of an innocent.

Doesn't affect the argument whether its illegal ownership or not and not sure your statement is true either. There are a ton of domestic murders involving 1-3 people and I'm pretty sure all those handguns are licensed.

we should get rid of cars then.

497,646 (95% CI = 266,060-729,231) incidents occurred in which the intruder was seen and reportedly scared away by the firearm.

IIRC the homicide rate with firearms in the US is usually around 15,000 per year. So for every homicide you're preventing between 17 and 48 murders, rapes, beatings, or robberies.

I'd love to see your source of 500,000 unjustified shootings of an innocent per justified shootings 🙄

If you go off sunburn's 500,000 numbers in the last 5 years everyone in the United States was shot in an unjustified shooting..... everyone.

I thought 500,000 would be a number of obvious exaggeration for comic effect. Come on guys...

BTW that article is just an abstract and still pretty darn sketchy. One its a telephone survey with no way to verify any claims made by people; people are amazingly prone to recall bias, amazingly prone to telling you what they think you want to hear (and sometimes things to prevent personal embarassment such as the embarassment of owning a gun for 10 years and actually never having to use it) and amazingly capable of falsely remembering the order of all sorts of events. Two its from 1994. Three, it doesn't determine the means by which the 500,000 incidents of being "scared off by a firearm" actually occur (sight, gunshot going off, or the homeowner simply calling out "I have a gun". In other words, perhaps just claiming to have a gun or claiming the police are coming are as effective as actually owning one when it comes to scaring off an invader).

To be honest, I spent a good deal of time researching this issue earlier in the night and its pretty hard to get data on how much gun crime is attributed to illegally owned guns in this country (at least with google searching amongst reputable sites. A lot of pro gun websites make crazy claims). The best I could do is that 80 percent of violent crime committed by repeat criminal offenders incolve illegal weapons. As for the percentage of all homicide that involves illegal weapons, your guess is as good as mine. I just know when I peruse my morning newspaper I hear a lot about this husband shooting that wife and etc and I'm pretty sure those are legally owned handguns.

Because a husband could not kill his wife with legally owned knife, baseball bat, pillow over face, etc. Yawn.

I hope I can still justifiably double tap some shit heads skull when I'm this guys age, good for him
