-86F windchill on Mt. Washington, NH!!!

anyone else notice the wind chill/heat index inflation? i'm pretty sure it's a ploy by weathermen/women to make their segments more interesting.

It hasn't been this cold since the winter of 1957...hehehe the winter I was born😛

Yeah it's funny. Even though, being in winter has no effect on global warming, I would of waited until the Summer at least. Perception is key and Al Gore lacks it .

They say the Artic air high pressure system pushing down from the north is from Siberia, Russia. Coldest stuff on the planet.

Like it's news anyway.

I went to a talk about gardening tools given by Roger Swain of The Victory Garden fame. He loathes the wind chill reference. He ends up having to try to explain it because some rather dense individuals will hear that the wind chill will be -40. They think their roses will die because they can only handle -10. The frustration, I gather, is that they still just don't get it after he tells them it will only be 0, all the rest is made up. But, it was really -40 and lower in Maine and other areas around there. For those using centigrade, -40C = -40F, so you know it is cold. 🙂

I have been stuck up on Washington (hikig) when it dropped down to -40 wind chill.

We made a hole and climbed in for a day until the storm passed and we could dig ourselves out.

Were prepared for bad weather, but the storm was not predicted. Saw the fronr approaching as we crossed a ridge; had about 45 minute warning.

hmm
well they amended the formula a couple years ago so now the wind chill values are warmer than what they used to report.
