But according to their 3D06 result of 9253, that is about the GTS performance is'nt it ?

My scores with current proc

3D03 = 26,603
3D05 = 11,739
3D06 = 6,568

If I went Core 2 Duo, I'm more than sure these would go up quite a bit. So don't that make (2) of these around GTS level and not GTX ?

You're forgetting that the GTS can be over-clocked (8600GTS) a lot. Someone said you can hit 800 core and 2ghz memory. Over-clocked, the two cards in SLI could easily hit 11k in 3d06 which is the score an 8800GTX gets roughly, stock.

But it'll crash at higher resolutions unless you get the 512MB version which would be more expensive and defeat the purpose.

@ Fonz, I think the power consumption of these two should be close to a GTX, you're right about the noise though.

Not so sure about the noise, you could grab two passively cooled 8600 GTS cards and have a 120mm fan blowing on them if needed for a near-silent solution. Everything we're hearing right now should only be taken as speculation though since drivers aren't ready and the cards aren't in wide distribution yet.
