I couldn't play Call of Duty 4 online with 7600gt so I upgraded it to 8600gt. I still can't play online becaue it is so slow. What could cause this problem? 8600gt is good enough for CoD4 multiplayer right? I have Verizon dsl and my pc is running duo core 2.4 with 2gb memeory and 600watt of power with 8600gt nvidia. Is it my dsl service?

8600GT is ~= to 7600GT, both are far too slow for CoD4 to be reasonable with much res/detail/players.

Check your pings. As long as you're not trying to do torrents or file-sharing while you're gaming, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

How does it play in single-player for you?

It runs perfect in a single player mode with 7600gt and even better with 8600gt with max resolution. I've gone into a room with ping as low as 38 and it still lagged. So, you're saying that it could be the efx 256mb 8600gt card?...

What resolution and detail settings do you use?

Even with my 8800GTS i run at 1024x768 with max settings as i want the fastest frame rate possible for online play.

I run my 8800GTS (g92) at 1680x1050 with COD4 online no problem at all. Get FIOS ;) I am betting its the DSL service. I get pings as low as 12-15, with many servers under 40. There are a bunch at 100-200 too, so I just avoid them. But yeah, if you have FIOS available, it is very fast, and very consistent. My old Comcast connection was utter crap, esp. upstream speed (with FIOS I have a solid 2Mbps up, with Comcast it was about 256Kb).

I don't have FIOS service yet around my area so I'm thinking of switching it to Time Warner Cable which is faster than the current dsl that I'm using. I hope it would help and I have my setting at minimal. I'll try turning some of the setting off to see if this would help. Anyhow, the lowest ping I've seen on my connection is 38 and that's very rare.....

I have not come across a game that under performs while online due to hardware I do not understand how this can happen. I am sure it will be due to your ISP/connection but I assume it is ok for other games? Is there any details on the offical COD4 forums?

I play very competitvely with my lappy @ 1280x800 high settings. I doubt your desktop card is causing your gaming problems

Did you get like the cheapest Comcast connection available? I get a solid 1.5 mbps upload with my Comcast and I might upgrade to a higher speed. In any case if you can get Time Warner cable, you probably can't get Comcast. And yes I would definitely say its the connection speed, I used to have Verizon DSL and my connection was horrid compared to what I have now, with the exact same system.

I have an Athlon X2 4200+ with a 6800GS, running 1024x768 and I get between 30-40FPS which is just fine for my stuff.. I'm looking to upgrade, but I certainly wouldn't call it "unplayable" by any stretch.
(Maybe I just have low standards!)
