I have got two 852 cpu's Opteron, and plan to use them on Asus k8n-dl dual board now i had posted earlier and was informed that these would work on this board but elsewhere i heard that i would need atleast a quad board to use these, can someone please clarify as to if i can use these on this dual board or not . This may be a kinda repeat question but since i am getting this conflicting report i am very concerned since i am ordering that motherboard and dont want to be stuck with it. I know these can be used in upto 8 way but i was made to believe that these would work in a dual cpu Opteron board, like the K8n-dl.
Thanks all i really need this help please help me sort this one out. Thanks a ton in advance.
The link to where i was informed that they will only work on a quad board is here

I suggest asus online technical service. They should respond to your request. I couldn't locate a cpu support list for the k8n-dl.

yes there is a list but only lists 252 or 2xx chips however i believe all 8xx chips are backward compatible meaning they should run on 2x boards.

852s should be compatible with that board, since it supports the 252. Now, let me just point out that having 852s on a board that only has 2 sockets is a bit of a waste since they are much more expensive than the 252s.

true but since with dual cores out they are dropping in price and so will the quad boards so i will have the option of getting 2 more at a lower price a year from now and upgrading to 4 with a quad board at that time.
