That is just an inflated payment shown on your bill. Your doctor and/or the Lab wont get anywhere close to that amount from your insurance company. That figure is just there to scare you so that you continue to keep your insurance (oh, and thats what you would pay if you didnt had insurance)

Exactly, it doesnt matter what the bill says, the insurance carrier has a contract to pay a set amount for those labs (probably close to $200 or so). They like to send you the hospital charge just to scare you though.

Yep.. the only real people getting screwed are all the ones that don't have insurance... its IMHO, not a fair system. People who are poor are less likely to have insurance.. but they are the ones who usually have to pay so much more.

WTF??? for basic blood work this seems pretty fricken high.

yep, i took a blood test at a lab for my annual physical. lab stated something ridiculous like $500 in fees for 3 vials blood.

insurance company lowered that to $36. lol

my co-pay was 20% ($7.20) 🙂

Somebody has to pay for the gold leaf covered containers they obviously put the blood in.

It's crazy. And the bad part is my company keeps increasing our costs, and decreasing our coverage. My wife is doubly insured (her work + my work), and I still have to pay out of pocket for her all the time.

All humans should have the right to be healthy and guaranteed coverage for anything that might happen to them.

Sure, everyone has a personal responsibility to keep themselves safe, but sometimes sh!t just happens, and we as a society have the responsibility of caring for those that need help.

The whole idea of private health care is disturbing.

You have insurance and it still costs that much?

the only thing i paid was the 20 buck co-pay.

Then what are you complaining about, Europe isn't getting it much cheaper. On the topic of pharmaceuticals, there are multiple non-industry supported studies that show comparable dosages are similarly priced within the US and EU. The big differences in spending come from Americans taking more and newer drugs, which in most cases won't be in Europe for at least 18 months.

WTF are you talking about? i had a physical along with 2 vials of blood tested thats it nothing special.

why do i care? because i think its too high, yes i am paying for all of it along with everybody else who has United Healthcare Insurance.

actually, united healthcare will probably only pay about 40% of it.

what's really jacked is, insurance will get the 40% rate but if a patient paid cash, they would have to pay the full amount.

that's why healthcare in this country is so hard for the non insured but make too much money to get medicaid people.

they get major jacked.

3 years ago, I had some blood work done before my knee surgery. The bill for it was $1600+, but the "adjusted" price the insurance company was in the $400. range...However, had that NOT been covered by insurance, I'd have had to pay the full amount. IMO, this is part of why prices are so fvcking high...they jack the rates through the roof, then negotiate with the insurance companies to let them pay a fraction of that inflated price, but stick the uninsured with the full amount to help cover the difference.

yep... I paid over 2 grand out of pocket for some doctors vists and some x-rays. I got re-imbursed for it because I had insurance, but just not the ID numbers at the time. The actual bill that the insurance paid was only like $500. People without insurance get fvcked over big time.

There should be a law that says people w/o insurance should pay arround the same price as what insurance companies reimburse doctors/hospitals.. heck, if the doctors/hospitals are doing fine with the amounts that that they are charging insurance companies.. I don't know why they should be charge poor people even more.. .
